Foz do Douro Urban Park is located in the western part of Oporto. The Park occupies a public green area inserted in the Oporto urban sprawl that has been built progressively along the Atlantic seafront since the 19th century.
The Park project is part of a general project presented in the “Nun'Álvares Boulevard Plan” competition, promoted by the Oporto city hall, for a total area of 30ha where one can find different elements like: new avenues, streets, single-family housing, collective and service areas, historical spaces, deployment of equipment and green spaces for public use.
With around 5ha of recreational and leisure green spaces, the Park clearly contributes to increase the green spaces for public use, increasing the availability of free spaces on local and regional scope.
About 30% of the project area has native flora, taking advantage of its view, ecological value and bioclimatic comfort, integrating spaces of passage and rest.
The existing wetlands are inserted in green/blue corridors ensuring the proper functioning of the Ervilheira stream in urban context, implementing a riparian gallery capable of being tagged as an element belonging to the water elements that dynamize the Ecological Infrastructure of Oporto.
The aim is to qualify the space, transforming it into a landscape where open scenarios contrast with forests that are safe, collective and accessible to all, with social, ecological and environmental benefits.
